Summary: Receiptr uses Google Firebase to securely store your financial data and sync it across your devices. We also use Apple iCloud as an additional backup. We do not sell your data, we do not advertise to you, and we do not share your financial data with anyone except the services listed in this policy. Receipt images and budget setup information are processed by Anthropic's AI and are not retained after processing.

1. Who We Are

3. How We Use Your Information

All information collected is used solely to provide the Receiptr service to you:

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the app's features to you.

4. AI Processing — Receipt Scanning

When you scan a receipt, the image is transmitted over an encrypted connection to Anthropic's API. Anthropic's AI processes the image to extract the merchant name, total amount, date, and line items. The image and extracted data are not stored on Anthropic's servers after processing is complete. Anthropic's privacy practices are governed by their own Privacy Policy, available at anthropic.com/privacy.

Unreadable or invalid receipt images are discarded immediately. Receipt scanning requires an active internet connection. Free accounts include 5 AI receipt scans. Receiptr Pro includes unlimited scanning.

5. AI Processing — Budget Setup

If you use the AI Budget Setup feature, the financial information you provide (income, city, household details, spending habits) is transmitted over an encrypted connection to Anthropic's API to generate a personalized budget recommendation. This information is not stored on Anthropic's servers after your budget is generated. The resulting budget is stored locally on your device, synced to Firebase Firestore, and backed up to your iCloud account. You are not required to use the AI Budget Setup feature — you can set your budget manually at any time.

6. Data Storage and Sync

Registered users: Your financial data is stored in three places:

Your data in Firebase is associated with your unique account ID only. Firestore security rules ensure that only you can read or write your own data — no other user or third party can access your financial information.

Guest users: Guest data is stored only on your local device and is not synced to Firebase or iCloud. If you delete the app, clear app storage, or lose your device, your guest data cannot be recovered. We strongly recommend creating a free account to protect your data.

7. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with any third party for their own purposes. The third-party services that receive portions of your data as part of providing the Receiptr service are:

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics services, or tracking SDKs in Receiptr. There are no ads in Receiptr.

8. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information, including:

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law. We recommend enabling Face ID or a passcode lock within the app for additional protection.

9. Data Retention

Registered users: Your data is retained in Firebase Firestore and your iCloud account until you explicitly request deletion. Logging out of Receiptr clears your local device cache only — your Firebase and iCloud data is preserved so you can restore it on any device by logging back in. To request permanent deletion of all your data from Firebase Firestore, contact us at hello@receiptrapp.com. To delete your iCloud backup, go to iPhone Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Receiptr → Delete Data.

Guest users: Data is retained on your local device until you delete the app, clear app data, or replace your device. Guest data is not backed up anywhere and cannot be recovered once lost.

You can delete all local transaction data at any time through the app: Settings → Clear All Transactions.

10. Your Rights

11. Children's Privacy

Receiptr is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through Receiptr, please contact us immediately at hello@receiptrapp.com and we will take steps to delete such information.

12. Canadian Privacy Law (PIPEDA)

For users in Canada, we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). We collect only the minimum personal information necessary to provide the service, with your knowledge and consent. You have the right to access your personal information and challenge its accuracy. 13. International Users

Receiptr is operated from Canada. If you are located outside Canada, your information may be processed in Canada and in the United States, where Anthropic, Google Firebase, and Resend operate their servers. By using the app, you consent to this transfer. We ensure all transfers comply with applicable privacy laws.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. Your continued use of Receiptr after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
